GreenPower and Australian Renewable Energy Switch Select

What is Green or Renewable energy?
Green energy is energy that is generated from a renewable resource. Sourced from the sun, the wind, water and waste, renewable energy is purchased on your behalf by your energy retailer.

Where does green energy come from?
There are many renewable generators located throughout Australia. They include solar cell farms, wind farms, hydro systems and biomass development plants.

Why should I use green energy?
Most electricity is produced by burning coal and creating greenhouse gases and about half of household generated greenhouse emissions come from the use of electricity, so by purchasing green energy you have the opportunity to reduce Australia's greenhouse pollution.

What is the difference between renewable energy and GreenPower Accredited Renewable Energy?
In order for an energy product to be given GreenPower Accreditation it must meet strict environmental standards and be produced by a renewable energy facility built after January 1997. Many energy companies offer GreenPower products whilst some offer renewable energy as their facility was built prior to 1997.

What is the difference between green energy and GreenPower?
Green energy is any renewable energy, created from renewable resources. GreenPower is a joint initiative of the ACT, NSW, SA, QLD, VIC and WA Governments which independently audits and gives accreditation to renewable energy generators.

How do I buy green energy products?
Your chosen retailer will purchase on your behalf the requested amount of green energy from accredited sources.

How can I be sure I am buying GreenPower?
GreenPower ensures all accredited green energy is beneficial to reducing Australia's greenhouse gas emissions. For energy products to be government accredited they must display the GreenPower tick.
