Now, it is not just “vanity” car registration plates but also personalized mobile phone numbers that are available for sale in Australia.

AMT Group, the company behind this new product believes there are highly-coveted phone numbers that can fetch big dollars. For example, the phone number 0400 888 888, has massive appeal for those of Chinese descent who believe that the number eight is lucky.

Other examples of high-value personalised phone numbers are 0418 SAINTS or 0400 FLOWER for people owning a flower marketing business.

Matthew Donnellan of the AMT Group said he got the idea of selling personalized phone numbers from the high price fetched by vanity car registration plates. He said that the company was established after four years of research and red tape. 
Mr Donnellan believes that the younger set of mobile users would be attracted to products that add meaning or personalise their mobile phones such as the accessories and of course, the numbers.

Initially, AMT Group has 100,000 numbers available on its online database. The list is set to significantly increase over the succeeding few months.
The starting price is at $125 and the company expects to sell by this month’s end over 25,000 numbers, Mr Donnellan said. He added that they do not offer any number combination that would be offensive or out of good taste.

Mr Donnellan added that their target market are the younger people who are fairly interested in music, sports or whatever that help them establish some identity.
