Technology will be adding another form of convenience to Australian travelers.  

GuestLogix, an onboard retail technology service company, will make it possible for Australian travellers to hire cars, buy tickets for the train, bus, tours,  and  concerts while on a plane, before getting to their destination.

They may also buy ski passes as well as mobile phone packages in order to reduce the charges for global roaming when travelling overseas.

GuestLogix is currently in talks with the different Australian airlines about the new service which is also an added way for the airlines to make money. The airlines will earn through commissions on the sales made on board.

John Devins, GuestLogix’s regional director, said that on board retail is one way to compensate from the slowly dwindling business in the duty-free shops because arriving passengers find the products cheaper if purchased over the internet.

Providing an on board retail store will greatly benefit the passengers because it will save them time aside from the convenience they will experience. They can proceed directly to their destinations complete with tickets bought on board, according to Mr Devins.

GuestLogix provides not only the software but the hand-held devices as well to make the purchase.

Mr, Devins said that his company is already working with the major international airlines such as Ryanair, British Airways and American Airlines overseas.  He added that almost any US airline today do not give away but sell everything.
He said that this year, the service is on a pilot run but is expected to ramp up and be offered in Australia next year
